Free to Speak Another Day (or Four Years)

Why am I joyful about the results of November 5? Because I am free to live as a Catholic for another day (or four years). I am free to speak against evil and darkness, now and into the foreseeable future.

I am thrilled that President Trump won. Nothing could please me more, politically and spiritually speaking, than handing a defeat to the Democrats/cultural Marxists.

Having said that, I understand that there is a pall hanging over the elections, as even more states—including my own Arizona—voted to enshrine abortion (to the moment of birth) in their state constitutions. The Democrats want child-murder up to the tearing of flesh and the crushing of bones, and they got it. Not all states voted for this devilry, praise God, but the number is growing. So, why am I still joyful about the results of November 5? Because I am free to live as a Catholic for another day (or four years). I am free to speak against evil and darkness, now and into the foreseeable future. Before this Trump win, that freedom was tenuous. With a Kamala win, my freedom to live and speak openly as a Catholic likely would have evaporated, perhaps not to return in my lifetime.

Some of our “progressive” Catholic friends may scoff and claim that I am being silly or hyperbolic. Not so. What they don’t understand—or maybe they do—is that faithful Catholics have already been silenced and censored for years, something that “progressive” Catholics have not experienced. Catholic Democrats have not had their speech or freedom curtailed by the current powers that be because the Catholic Left and the world get along just fine.

Meanwhile, faithful Catholics on social media have spent years fighting back against the silencing of our voices. Social media is the public square now (with far more viewers and greater engagement than traditional media), and when conservatives and faithful Christians are kicked out of that space, the implications are massive. Social media’s power to manipulate and alter global politics for a generation or more is not reducible to “private companies being able to do what they want,” as some argue. Our wake-up call should have been when we got confirmation that the Biden government pressured Mark Zuckerberg and others to censor the Left’s political opponents.

Democrats know well the power of social media to move hearts, convict minds, and push social change. Otherwise, they would not continue to be up in arms about Elon Musk purchasing Twitter (now X) and his restoration of conservative accounts that had been banned, including that of a then-current president, Donald Trump. Free-flowing political and religious speech does not help to advance leftist causes; and, had Kamala won this election, not only would Trump certainly have died in the prison cell they’ve prepared for him but Musk would also have been the target of lawfare persecution. A few million votes stood between us and a takedown of the only global social media platform offering free speech to conservatives and faithful Catholics.

Of their own admission, Democrats (including Kamala Harris) were chomping at the bit to “hold accountable” any social media platform that allows what the Left deems “harmful mis- or disinformation”—that is, any opinion not held by leftist Democrats.

Hans-Hermann Hoppe Best Price: $24.77 Buy New $37.61 (as of 09:25 UTC - Details) Although small, mine is one of the mainstream conservative voices that falls under the category of “purveyor of misinformation.” For many years now, my social media accounts have consistently been locked, blocked, restricted, and shadow-banned. I’ve been placed in “Facebook jail” more than once—as early as 2012. That means I was not allowed to post anything, not allowed to comment on or “like” anything, and not even allowed to have access to my personal, private Facebook messages. (How creepy is that?)

I all but gave up on Facebook and had, more recently, moved to Instagram, which is a better fit for me. However, both Facebook and Instagram are under the umbrella of Meta (Zuckerberg) and although Zuck says he regrets caving to government pressure and censoring Biden’s political opponents last election, that is exactly what happened again in the lead-up to this election. In late summer, many of my Instagram followers, all at the same time, started reporting that they could not find me in their feeds anymore and had to search hard for my account; even autofill would not work when they typed in my name.

Meanwhile, as I was posting traditional Catholic teaching and mainstream conservative political thought as always, I began to receive multiple warnings, had posts removed, and would get “fact-checked” up to five times a day! My reach was cut drastically. Whereas before I would reach up to 600 folks with an Instagram story, the numbers dropped overnight to around 150 and held at a steady low. In addition, people who were looking to follow my account received this notice: “Are you sure you want to follow leilajunebug? This account has repeatedly posted false information that was reviewed by independent fact-checkers or went against our Community Guidelines.”
